The group was founded in 1976. It is a Shine group, which maintains close links with the local Cluain Mhuire Community Mental Health Service and is actively involved contributing to the developments in Shine and the mental health services in the South Dublin area.
Our meetings are intended for carers and relatives from the Blackrock/South Dublin area. They are an opportunity for sharing experiences and problems and offering support to each other. Meetings are private and confidential and normally are attended by about 20 people, a number of whom have been carers for some time.
Periodically, we invite guest speakers to give talks on aspects of care with opportunities for discussions and questions. Topics are common to most people and might include dealing with the side effects of medication, accommodation, legal and legacy issues and other aspects of interest to carers.
Our meetings take place at the Centre for Living on Rose Hill at the top of Carysfort Avenue in Blackrock. As you go up Carysfort Avenue, the Centre is about 100km above the traffic lights with Newton Park on the right hand side. See map linked here.
